Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare

Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare
30 November

Chemical weapons
Were massively used
During The first world war

For the first time in history
Masks were used to protect
The soldiers at the front

A war with only losers
And shame
For all

The victims were numerous,
Died of suffocation
Terrible  complications

The lessons however
Were not learnt
And the chemicals improved

A shame for all

In remembrance of all those victims
Who did not choose to fight
Who did not choose to die

And shame for those who use them

What are chemical weapons

Chemical weapons are toxic chemical substances that are intended to cause harm or death to humans, animals, or plants. These weapons can take various forms, including gases, liquids, or solids, and they can be delivered through different means, such as artillery shells, bombs, and spray devices.

Chemical weapons can be classified into several categories based on their effects

Nerve Agents: These are highly toxic chemicals that disrupt the normal functioning of the nervous system. Examples include sarin, VX, and tabun.

Blistering Agents: Also known as vesicants, these agents cause severe blisters and damage to skin and mucous membranes. Sulfur mustard (mustard gas) is a well-known example.

Choking Agents: These chemicals primarily affect the respiratory system and can cause suffocation. Examples include chlorine gas and phosgene.

Blood Agents: These substances interfere with the body’s ability to use oxygen, often by affecting the blood’s ability to carry oxygen. An example is cyanide.

Psychochemical Agents: These are substances that can induce psychological effects, such as hallucinations or incapacitation.

The use of chemical weapons is prohibited under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), an international treaty that aims to eliminate the production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons. Despite these efforts, there have been instances throughout history where chemical weapons have been deployed in conflicts, raising significant ethical and humanitarian concerns.
