International Human Solidarity Day
20 December
Solidarity !
We all share our humanity
Same dreams and failures
Same hope and disillusions
Our solidarity should extend
To nature
Crops and animals
We share the same planet !
History and message of Human Solidarity Day
Human Solidarity Day is observed on December 20 each year. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005, the day serves to promote the ideals of solidarity and unity among people. It is intended to encourage international dialogue and cooperation, aiming to shed light on the significance of social justice and the importance of respecting human rights and dignity for all individuals.
History
The concept of Human Solidarity has roots in various philosophical, religious, and political traditions that emphasize the interconnectedness of humanity. The Day was established in the context of the UN’s broader efforts to address poverty, inequality, and social exclusion. The UN General Assembly resolution that proclaimed Human Solidarity Day emphasized the need for a global community that supports and respects the interests and rights of others.
Message
The message of Human Solidarity Day revolves around several key themes:
Unity in Diversity: It promotes the idea that despite differences in culture, ethnicity, and beliefs, humanity should stand together as one.

Cooperation and Collective Action: It calls for collaborative efforts among nations, organizations, and individuals to address global challenges such as climate change, conflict, and inequality.
Human Rights and Dignity: Promoting respect for all human rights is a fundamental message of the day, reinforcing the notion that every individual deserves dignity and equal treatment.
Global Citizenship: Human Solidarity Day encourages individuals to take responsibility as global citizens, advocating for policies and practices that promote justice and equity.

Good day and thank you Rose!
I went to read up about International Human Solidarity and one of the concepts is to celebrate unity in our diversity. I want to echo that because it’s such a strong statement that can build peace among neighbors, communities, and countries of different cultures, races, and religions. In the modern world, people are more drifted apart despite the proximity of technology and that’s something we need to work on and bring back that lost of humanity our forefathers have fought in the past.
You are so right Cathy! Unity in diversity is the key with one common denominator: our humanity, our being humans sharing the same planet. We really need to take care of each other so that we can grow to full stature of human maturity.Thank you fir wit!
I agree with you there my friend. I wish we stood in solidarity a little more than we do in this world! If everyone took a little time away from their screens to remember what was important in their life once in a while, I think we would have a better world to live in! Peace brother 🙂
Peace!
